After my grandmother passed, I did a lot of soul searching. I found myself questioning God and asking why He had to take her. It took a lot of patience, prayer, mediation, and realization to understand that it is not for us to know why God does things. As the song writer says "God can do what ever He wants to do, when He wants to, and how He wants to do, because He's sovereign."
No man knows the time nor day of Jesus' return, as stated in Matthew 24-25. If you knew when you were going to die or the exact moment of Jesus' return, would you wait until the last minute to 'get right'? Whose to say you will have that opportunity. We are given plenty of opportunities to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. I'm reminded of the story of the 10 virgins waiting on the bride-groom to come. Five were wise and brought extra oil. They did not want to miss their opportunity and blessing, so they prepared themselves for what was to come. The other five were foolish and did not bring extra oil for their lamps. The bride-groom came and they were left out of the ceremony because they were out buying oil. The five foolish virgins were living only in the moment, figuring that they had time. Time does not take sides. Tomorrow is not promised. Don't wait until then to 'get right'.
I say this because my dear friend was killed last week. A piece of my heart is now broken, but not unmendable. My prayers, as are many others, go out to his family. He was not perfect, as none of us are, but he was a faithful servant. A midst the tears and pain, I must find joy. Joy to know that he is now receiving his inheritance in Heaven. Joy in knowing that he is where I aspire to be, with the Lord. There is now one more angel looking down & protecting us.
The power of life and death does not lye in our hands. For only God has that control. It is times like these when only my faith can hold me. Stand by your faith and convictions. God is always in control. His earthly work may be finished, but his heavenly work is not.
Choose life: Everlasting life.
