One day I was minding my own business, tending to the seeds God gave me to plant. It was cold outside, but I did not mind because the Spirit was keeping me warm. I finished my days work and returned home to rest. As I sat by the fire, singing old hymns, I heard a noise on the porch. There were three long knocks at my door. Knock...knock...knock. Who could that be at this time of day?
I started to get up to answer the door, but God said wait. So I sat back down and waited. The noise quieted down and the knocks stopped. I did not think anything else of it. I continued to busy myself around the house. I washed a load of clothes. I swept and mopped the floors. I prepared supper and ate at the table with my Lord. It must have been around nine o'clock when I heard the same noise again. This time it was louder and stronger. Bang...bam...boom. I could not ignore it. I jumped up from the couch and headed towards the window. Before I could reach the window, my God stepped in front of me and said "Wait". I was not one to disobey the Lord, so I stood in my place and did as I was told.
Bang...bam...boom. Knock...knock...knock. I turned to my Lord for direction. He kept His arms stretched wide so that I could not pass Him and nothing could get to me. Before I could ask God what the noise was, he turned to me and said "Remember what I have taught you. Remember what you have seen. Be a doer. Be the example. Hold fast to the truth. I will never leave nor forsake you." He then turned to the door and walked towards it. knock...knock...knock. The knocks seemed less forceful and the noise had grown softer.
God opened the door. I could not see what was on the other side, but God could. He turned to me and said "Come. The seeds you planted have grown and are ready for harvest". I dropped what I was doing, ran towards my God. He gave me a big hug and a warm smile. I turned towards the door and found opportunity standing in front of me. My eyes filled with tears and my heart sang of joy. I took opportunity by the hand and proceeded to walk into my destiny. I tried to glance back at my house, but it was not there. I could only see what lay ahead. We began to walk.
What seemed like a short trip around the block, quickly turned into a long journey. My legs grew weak and my body grew tired. I wanted to stop, but opportunity would not let me. The weaker I felt, the lighter my load seemed. Something was happening that I could not explain. My legs stopped moving, but I kept going. My eyes grew heavier, but I could still see. It did not take long to realize that God did not stay back at the house, He was now carrying me. God carried me all the way to my promised land. When I could not move, He moved me. When I could not speak, He spoke for me. When I could not comprehend, He gave me understanding. God did it all, all for me.
I reached my destination, some time ago. I stayed for a while, but then it was time to go. Where would I go next. I did not know. In my journey, I learned to adhere to God's command. I waited until He moved me, for He had the master plan. I remembered all He told me and shared it with anyone who had an ear. I praised Him everyday of every month of every year. My journey is far from being complete. I have many more destinations to reach.
The lesson in all of this is that we must wait for God to open the door and listen to His words. Every knock should not be answered and every street is not paved with gold. God will tell you when to move. Until that time, sit and wait and grow.
