John 4:23 speaks to
us about worshipping God “in spirit and in truth”. Worship is not a Sunday morning “thing”. There is no on and off switch. When we worship God we worship Him no matter
where we are and no matter who we are with.
We worship with our hearts and out of love and adoration for God. The stronger our walk of faith, the stronger
our worship. Yes, you can worship God
and be a “babe” in Christ. Worship is
our way of telling and showing God that we love Him and we long for a deeper
relationship with Him. Think back to the
worship songs you have heard. Think about
the lyrics and how people cry out to God during worship. They pour out everything to God with the
anticipation of hearing a word from God and receiving the Holy Spirit into
their hearts. I have learned that
worship takes heart and commitment. I
cannot serve God and not worship Him. I
cannot bow to the world Monday – Friday and then worship God “in spirit and in
truth” on Sunday. God is too great for
me to play around with Him. If I have no
truth, I have no worship. In order to
worship God, we must first understand who God really is. That is very hard to do if we have never
taken time to study God’s word or even communicated with Him in prayer. Spirit is where our heart and our passion for
God lye. Spirit and truth go hand in
hand. For without one, we are just
blowing air and putting on a show. That
goes against everything that God stands for.
Worship is not meant for entertainment.
Worship is meant only for God. I
encourage you to praise like no one is watching and worship like God is standing
right in front of you.
