Serving God by serving others

Each time I searched for poems or messages for men & women serving God, the same topics appeared: “Should women serve?” and “men versus women.”  It became clear that this was not going to be an easy task.

I kept changing the words in the search engine, but the results stayed the same.  It was then that I remembered my search engine.  My go to Book of Life.  I searched for answers to my questions and relied on God to direct me.  Then it all became so clear.

The one instruction that we need in serving God was in John 13.  Our clear example of how we are to serve God by serving others.  For He says in versus 14-17: ¹⁴ If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. ¹⁷ If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

My sisters and brothers, we are to model ourselves after Jesus, by serving in love, humbly, and knowing that we are no greater than the ones we are helping.  As the songwriter said: “It could have been me…”.

And while there are 1000’s of churches, we must remember that service is not a competition.  Honesty, integrity, and sincerity are far greater than packing pews.  It does not matter where you come from, what you look like, or how many degrees you’ve earned.  All that matters is your heart.  Have you accepted Jesus into your heart and life?  Have you committed yourself to doing God’s work?  If the answer is yes, then my friend, we still have a lot of work to do. 

Each day we are to strive to do what Jesus did.  We should lay aside our personal agendas, clothe ourselves in the Word, share the cleansing power of Jesus with others, and watch the Holy Spirit move.

My brothers and sisters, service is matching the words we speak with actions we show, and aligning them all with God’s plan.
