Thanks be to God for Giving us Jesus!

Here we are again getting ready to kick off the winter holidays with Thanksgiving.  Last year as many of you know, my husband and I celebrated with our 1st Thanksgiving with our daughter.  This year, our daughter is more active and inquistive.  Even though she's too young to really remember all the events of the day, we still can't wait to celebrate the holiday with her.

I've decided to cook dinner at my house for us.  Since it's only 3 of us, I'm not going all out with a huge feast like you see on television.  We will have the basics and leave the rest for the in-laws.  As I reflect on how grateful we are to have a roof over our heads, clothes on our back, and food to eat, I must stop to ask God to bless those who do not have those things.

There have been so many disasters, both natural & man-made, and far too many senseless acts of violence this year.  Everyday people wake up hungry, cold, or needing shelter.  Everyday a child cries out for the parents that were taken away.  Everyday a loved one is reported missing.  Everyday a mother has to choose between feeding herself or her children.  I pray and wait for the day when there will truely be world peace.  I pray and wait for the day when our children do not have to be afraid to play outside.  I pray and wait for the day when the elderly don't have to sacrifice medicine for food.

Through watching these events unfold over the course of the year, I have learned to be more humble, more appreciative, and more grateful for what I have.  This season is not about the selfishness of shopping, but the selflessness of giving.

I challenge each and everyone of you to take time and reflect on what matters the most in your life.  Praise God for what He has done, what He hasn't done, the path you've walked, and the obstacles you've overcome.  Then reach out in your community and share Jesus with someone.  It may be as small as a hug and warm smile to a stranger or as big as a donation to your favorite charity.  Whatever you do, do it in the name of Jesus.  Let His light shine through you.

Happy Thanks to God for Giving us Jesus!!
