This idea came to me at church a few weeks ago. Sadly, I was only listening to the preacher with one ear. My other ear was thinking about our children. I am baffled by the effort our youth go to to 'fit in' with the people they claim are there friends. Yet they could care less about the struggle our families endured so that we could have a good education. At what point in time did our priorities shift? More importantly what must we do to shift them back?
Everyone says things started going downhill in the schools when they took prayer out. They may have stopped public prayer, but they cannot stop the private prayers of every child, parent, or employee. Since when do they decide when and how my child can pray to the only God that can save her.
The fake personas that you strive to maintain will only bring you to your knees in tears. Why not let those tears be ones of gratitude and shed in rejoicing. Swagger cannot help you past your test. Swagger cannot carry you over the mountain. Swagger definitely will not get you into heaven. God does not care about swagger. He cares about you. Your heart is what He wants. He did not create you to be boastful of man's works, but to share His glory with others. Prayer is more than a basket of nice words. It is a means of communication with your Creator. It is a way to say thanks for everything God is doing, has done, will do, and didn't do. It is our time to lift up His name and praise God for being God Almighty.
So the next time you want to sag your pants, lower your top, or "pack heat", remember swagger cannot protect you from evil. God can shield you and make your enemies your footstool as He fights your battles. Don't let man dictate when you can pray or how you should act. I urge you to turn your heart towards God and truly apply His principles in your life. His "swagger" outweighs any amount you will ever try to achieve.
